pirate, shake your bootie.

I find great pleasure in listening to mash-ups. It’s a little subculture, driven by amateurs all over the world. I love it cause its foundation is love for music, melodies and pop-culture. It’s smart and brings joy to my heart. A clever combination of songs you’d never even thought of matching makes me smile and dance.

2006 was an interesting year in mash-ups. These compilations showcase this, all of them freely available on the net.

Radio Clash 103’s Best of 2006 is a great compilation and a good starting point. It’s a podcast, so there’s a little talk and lots of music.

Booties’ Best of 2006 cd is a real gem. You can download single tracks, but they’re all worth keeping. You haven’t lived until you’ve heard Divide & Kreate – Always With You (Willie Nelson vs. U2 vs. MARRS). Pure awesomeness.

Simon Iddol’s Boys with guitars mix is really, really good. Great taste in music.

And then there’s always Loo and Placido. Their free podcast is available through iTunes, which is amazing. I really wonder how they get the clearance for all the songs they use in their mixes.

Back to listening.
